which side of the road traffic drives on

Interesting facts

A map showing which side of the road traffic drives on. If this world map vaguely looks like it’s highlighting a remnant of the British Empire, that’s no coincidence. But right-handedness, a trait shared by 85 to 90% of people, is the reason for the initial preference for left and for the switch to right side driving. See the map.

Incan Geoglyphs of Chile

Beautiful

Another great Google Earth sightseeing tour. In Chile’s Atacama Desert, there are many examples of ancient Incan geoglyphs, similar to the Nazca Lines in neighbouring Peru, but spread over a much wider area. In the northern desert the Chiza geoglyphs were made by carefully arranging the dark stones on the light sand to create figures of humans, birds and animals. Further south, we find the geoglyphs at Tiliviche - which is a huge drawing of a whole herd of Llamas being rounded up by a fat guy and a skinny guy. See for yourself.

Jeep launches interactive comic book

Brands & Marketing

Jeep Patriot Comics site. is defined as "the first interactive collaborative creation the comic world has ever seen". Yes it does sound very American, but it also seems to be kind of true. Jeep and Marvel drafted the first pages of the story, and now it's up to the users to submit ideas and see them converted into the real story by the pencil of Bing Cansino. The interactive comic is also supported by a tips&tricks section in blog-style, a good idea to catch-up with the project.

What's going on in the Yamantau Mountain complex

Politics & Conspiracy

An Area 51 in Russia? Some people think so. Starting in the Brezhnev period, Russia has been pursuing construction of a massive underground facility at Yamantau Mountain and the city of Mezhgorye in the southern Urals. Hidden inside Yamantau mountain , the project involved the creation of a huge complex - it covers an area the size of the Washington area inside the Beltway - served by a railroad, a highway, and thousands of workers." Pop-up pictures

Beautiful

If you love pop-up books and trashy pulp-fiction book covers, then you're sure to love these pictures by Thomas Allen. By taking an X-acto knife to the pages of vintage books and manipulating the images, he is able to make two-dimensional characters come to life by playing with lighting, angles and focus. The books’ wrinkled and worn pages, as well as their crumbling spines only help add to his constructions. These little paper dioramas are colorful, melodramatic and playful.

Apple's next big move: Multitouch displays?

From the the latest batch of Apple rumors it appears that Apple's next big move will be Multitouch displays. Just read the comments to see what the rumours are. Scaling in photoshop? Put two fingers on the trackpad and pinch, At the presentation of the i-phone Steve Jobs at one point walked up to the 30" display ... and did a multitouch move. But the screen wasn't multitouch enabled, so it did nothing. Jobs moved on without mentioning it'. This is all concluded from the latest Apple patent apllications.
